questions
Questions people ask first.
What people want to know before trusting an app with years of saves.
your files
Where exactly do my files live?
In a folder you can open in the Files app, under On My iPhone › IKI. Turn on iCloud Drive in IKI’s settings and the library moves to iCloud Drive › IKI › Library, syncing through your own Apple Account. Every save is a markdown file with its original next to it: the video, the audio, the screenshot or the PDF. Point Obsidian at the folder and it reads it as is.
What happens to my library if IKI shuts down?
Nothing. When Pocket shut down on July 8, 2025, people got a few months to export, and then a decade of saves was deleted. That can’t happen with IKI, because your library is already plain files on your own device, and they open without us.
How do I export my library?
There’s nothing to export. The markdown files are the library itself, not a copy of it. Zip the folder, AirDrop it to a Mac or put it in any backup you trust.
Does IKI sync between devices?
Yes, through iCloud Drive. Switch it on in Settings and the library becomes ordinary files in your iCloud Drive, under your Apple Account. Each device builds its own search index from them, and nothing passes through us.
Can I get back something I deleted?
Yes, for 30 days. Deleted items wait in Settings › Library › Recently Deleted, and after that their files are removed for good.
privacy and ai
Which AI reads my saves?
Apple’s on-device model, on the phone itself. Summaries, tags, cards and answers are computed there. When your library doesn’t cover a question, IKI says “not in your library” instead of making something up.
Is anything sent to your servers?
Not by default. The full list of exceptions is on the privacy page: Deep Parse, the web copy of your library, browser capture and shared pages. Each one starts with something you do. Saving, search and Ask work in airplane mode, which is the easiest way to check.
What’s Private Cloud Compute, and is it on?
It’s Apple’s private cloud for Apple Intelligence, available to apps on iOS 27. IKI can send a question and the excerpts it found there when the on-device model can’t handle the language. It’s off until you turn it on in Settings › Intelligence. Apple designs it so the data isn’t stored and Apple can’t access it.
What does “bring your own Claude key” mean?
On any plan you can paste your own Anthropic API key in Settings. When you ask a question, the request goes straight from your phone to Anthropic under your key, and only then. IKI never proxies it or sees the traffic. You pay Anthropic directly, typically cents per question.
How private are shared pages?
A collection shared with a password is encrypted on your device before it leaves, so we host bytes we can’t read. You can set an expiry date and revoke a page at any time.
Does my data train any model?
No. On-device processing stays on the device, so there’s nothing for anyone to train on. If you use your own Claude key, those requests fall under your own agreement with Anthropic.
everyday use
Which iPhones does it work on?
IKI is made for iOS 27 on an iPhone with Apple Intelligence. On an iPhone without Apple Intelligence, saving, reading, transcription and search still work. Summaries come out plainer, and answers are put together from excerpts of your saves.
How do Reels, Stories and Shorts get in?
Save the video or screen-record the Story, then share it to IKI from Photos. IKI reads what’s said and what’s written on screen, and takes the handle on the frame as the author. A Reel link on its own brings only a title, because Instagram doesn’t show pages to apps without a login. IKI tells you when that happens.
Does IKI work offline?
Yes. Capture, transcription, summaries, search and Ask all run on the device. Only a few things need a connection: fetching a saved link’s page, Deep Parse, and the optional Claude key or Private Cloud Compute.
Which languages does it speak?
English, Russian and Portuguese. The interface, voice transcription and text in images all handle the three, mixed freely in one library.
Can I import from Pocket, Evernote or Raindrop?
Yes. IKI reads Pocket exports (CSV and HTML), Evernote .enex files, Raindrop backups, mymind’s cards.csv and your Safari Reading List. Imports run on the device, with progress in the Dynamic Island.
Do screenshots really import themselves?
Yes, once you allow photo access. IKI reads the text on each new screenshot on the phone, tables included, and files it as a card. On iOS 27 they arrive within seconds while IKI is open, and older ones can come in at your own pace.
What can the Apple Watch do?
Dictate a thought, and it lands in the library transcribed and dated to the moment you said it. See what you saved today. Ask a question from your wrist: the watch searches its own copy of your recent library, even with the phone at home.
What about iPad, Apple Pencil and the Mac?
On iPad, IKI has a sidebar, keyboard shortcuts and Apple Pencil support: handwriting becomes searchable text, and you can mark up screenshots and PDFs. On the Mac, the Safari extension adds pages to IKI, and with your library in iCloud Drive they reach your iPhone.
What are recipes?
One-tap AI workflows over your saves: Summary, Script for camera, Hooks, Briefing on a collection, Series, What’s new here, Draft a post and Next steps. Free includes three of your choice with unlimited runs, and the rest come with Pro.
plans
What does the free plan limit?
Only recipes. You pick three and run them as often as you like, and the fourth distinct recipe asks for Pro. Saves, library size, on-device AI, search and Ask are never limited. The details are on the pricing page.
How do subscriptions work?
Through the App Store: $6.99 a month or $49 a year, managed in your Apple Account like any other subscription. Cancel any time. Pro runs to the end of the period you paid for, and then Free continues with all your files intact.
How do refunds work?
Purchases go through Apple, so refunds do too, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We never see your card.
