iki vs mymind

Both promise a private mind. Only one is on your device.

mymind is one of the best-looking save-anything tools around, and its stance against ads, tracking and social features is close to ours. The difference is where your saves get read.

mymind is for visual thinkers who want a calm grid of everything they’ve saved, on Android, the web and Apple devices alike. It’s a mature product, and its no-folders approach respects your attention. It reads text in images you share to it and keeps video uploads, though we found no way to search what’s said in them. There are no voice notes and no questions over your saves. IKI reads your videos and voice notes on the iPhone, lets you ask the whole library, and keeps everything as markdown files you can open in the Files app.

credit where it’s due

Where mymind wins.

It’s beautiful

The best-looking tool in this category. IKI’s card library doesn’t try to imitate the visual grid.

It’s everywhere

Android and the web as well as Apple devices. IKI is Apple-only, so if your devices are mixed, mymind fits and IKI doesn’t.

It’s mature

Years of refinement. IKI is younger.

moving over

How to move over.

  1. 1Request your export from mymind in a desktop browser (export is desktop-only). You get your files and a cards.csv index.
  2. 2In IKI, open Settings › Library › Import from mymind and choose cards.csv. Links are fetched and read on your phone, and text cards become notes.
  3. 3Share the images and PDFs from the export into IKI too. Screenshots get their text read, and PDFs are read in full.

It’s free to start, and every save is a file you own.
