Pocket isn’t an option any more.
It shut down on July 8, 2025. If you’re here, you’re choosing what comes next, and whether the same thing can happen again.
after pocket
Pocket made save-for-later mainstream and served readers well for years. This page isn’t a victory lap. It explains why IKI keeps your library as files.
The timeline: Mozilla shut Pocket down on July 8, 2025. Users had until October 8 to export their data, with a short extension to around November 6. After that, everything was permanently deleted. Premium subscribers were refunded automatically, which is more grace than most shutdowns manage. Still, every reading list that missed the window is gone, because the saves only ever existed inside a service. IKI keeps your library as markdown files on your own device, so there’s no server whose shutdown could take it away.

credit where it’s due
One-tap save-for-later, years before every browser grew a reading list. Millions of people learned to keep what they found.
Its clean article view was the standard everyone measured against.
A public timeline, an export window and automatic refunds. The problem was the architecture, not the conduct.
